Institutional research, current research projects and collaborations
The institution has a policy for encouraging and supporting the research work of students and teachers, at the same time.
In addition to organizing courses that enable the rooting of the principles of the scientific method, the Institution in its study programs offers the possibility of carrying out scientific projects under the guidance of mentors on the topics offered by the educational boards.
Due to the difficulties in developing the Institution’s research programs in this situation, the school offers the realization of research projects from a limited scope, and that in the realization of research projects – epidemiological in the topics offered by the board of public sciences, the board of basic biomedical sciences (physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry etc.) and clinical sciences board.
With the aim of raising the new research-scientific generation and rooting the principles of the scientific method and developing new knowledge, students are constantly involved in research-scientific activities intended for students, as well as in research-scientific projects of the academic staff.
In order to ensure the best possible conditions for this activity, it has taken a series of actions to ensure the necessary infrastructure for genuine research-scientific activity, in terms of the development of the scientific library, the functionalization of the scientific information service, the support of the publishing scientific activity and activities for the development of research laboratories.
As an institution, we have also developed activities for the intensification of cooperation in the field of research-scientific activity with other local and foreign institutions, in terms of developing joint research programs, conducting studies and research of a theoretical and practical nature in different fields of special interest, support for the implementation of scientific research results in practice, increase in volume and increase in quality of research-scientific activity, support and motivation of scientific workers and researchers to engage in research-scientific work, supporting the scientific publishing activity, supporting and encouraging the creation of inter-institutional links for the realization of the joint research-scientific activity.
Scientific information services, in a systematic way, throughout the calendar year, notify the academic staff with the agenda of meetings, conferences and congresses, national and international in the relevant fields, in order to advance the activity in the field of publications as well as adequate research- scientific information.
Scientific Projects with Students
By students, 12 scientific projects have been carried out so far, of which 5 scientific projects of Physiotherapy students and 7 joint scientific projects for Pharmacy and Medicine students.
List of research conducted by students of Pharmacy and medicine:
1. Polypharmacy in the Department of Cardiology of UCCK.
2. Comparative study of cefuroxime axetil vs cefachlor for the treatment of acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
3. Interaction of drugs in UCCK clinics
4. Treatment of bronchial asthma
5. Comparative study of efficacy and safety of Lansoprazole for the treatment of esophageal erosions
6. Efficacy of furosemide vs bumetanide for the treatment of acute oliguric renal failure
7. Comparative study of the efficacy and safety of pioglitazone vs metformin for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2. Dentistry students have completed a research project related to the assessment of oral health and its protection in children of 3 schools in Pristina. This project is named “To save the youth”. The second project carried out by the students is the AIDS Project.
From the scientific projects of the academic staff, two scientific projects have been completed so far:
1. Utilization of drugs in the General Hospital “Rezonanca” and 2. Comparison of the specificity and sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to computerized tomography (CT) as a method of radiological diagnosis. In these researches, were involved 5 students of Medicine and 5 students of Pharmacy.
In addition, 5 topics presented by Medicine and Pharmacy students for participation in the International Congress of Faculties of Medical Sciences, held in Tirana, Albania in 2010, have been financially supported.
The students’ works with which they participated are:
1. Jetmir Sejdiu with bp. Pathological changes in the gastroduodenal mucosa associated with Helicobacter pylori infection” (oral presentation)
2. Mevlane Islami with bp. Techniques for the correction of hypospadias – our clinical experience (oral presentation).
3. Mimosa Zhubi with bp. Examination of the psychosocial condition of patients treated with oral anticoagulant therapy (oral presentation).
The Institute for Research and Science (IRS) operates within the Institution.
The Institute for Research and Science (IRS) is an internal institution of the Faculty with rights, duties and responsibilities defined by Law no. 2004/42 on the Research-Scientific Activity of Kosovo and the Statute of the Institute.
THE ACTIVITY OF IRS
The Institute for Research and Science deals with the following activities:
• continuously takes care of raising the new research-scientific generation; the involvement of students and postgraduate students in the research-scientific work carried out in the Institution;
• promotes research-scientific activity with the aim of integration into the international scientific space, the rooting of the principles of the scientific method and the development of new knowledge among the younger generations of society in general;
• develops activities for the intensification of cooperation in the field of research-scientific activity with other local and foreign institutions, in terms of the development of joint research programs, conducting studies and research of a theoretical and practical character from various fields of special interest
• motivates and supports all its academic staff for systematic creative work, with the aim of research and development of new knowledge, as well as the use and implementation of these results in practice;
• plans the necessary infrastructure for genuine research-scientific activity and undertakes activities for the development of research laboratories;
• takes care of the proper equipment and functioning of the scientific library;
